I’ve been somewhat of a scarf fanatic for close to a decade now. A pashmina scarf fanatic, to be specific. For years these long pieces of colourful fabric have been adding personality to my somewhat uniform wardrobe. A fellow writer in the industry once commented on my dress saying, “I see you picked up the editorial black and white pretty quickly!” I didn’t know what she meant until I noticed all the other writers in the office tended to sway towards the greys, whites and blacks themselves. Yes. Apparently I play it safe and stick to my neutrals for the most part. Except when it comes to my scarves, that is. I boast a collection that ranges from solid colours to stripes and floral patterns — sometimes I go wild and even mix them up!
I’m part of a collection of women across the globe who proudly adorn these scarves — sometimes as an accessory, sometimes as a necessity — regardless of the season. Pashmina scarves are light enough that they can be worn in the Summer over a solid tank-top and shorts, or, depending on the thickness of the fabric, in the Winter as a splash of colour along with a woolen jacket or sweater.
These scarves can be purchased anywhere from $7 at your closest H&M to $500 (for the REAL Pashminas) at Holt Renfrew.
This Spring, why not try adding a floral pashmina scarf to a pair of jeans with a white t-shirt, or a solid coloured scarf to a black sweater-dress with leggings. And as an added bonus, the scarf can open up to a shawl, keeping you warm during the nippy and irregular Spring temperatures.
