The Hills (starring Lauren Conrad), Grey’s Anatomy and The Game may be over, but this summer’s 2009 TV season is just getting started. Adorned is giving you the lowdown on some of the hottest shows that are sure to be on your DVR schedule.

Here are some of this season’s new and returning shows — one for every day!

True Blood

True Blood stars Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin with executive producer Alan Ball at the premiere of True Blood 2nd Season in Los Angeles, California.

Airs: Sunday, June 14th @ 9PM ET/PT (HBO)

If you’re a true fan of the Twilight Saga, then you’ll surely fall in love with this show. It is somewhat of the same plot line. Sookie Stackhouse, a local waitress, truly understands what it’s like to be an outsider. I guess you can say she was cursed with the ability to listen to people’s thoughts and is very open-minded about the integration of vampires in her small town. She becomes intrigued with a gorgeous 173 year-old named Bill, who lives up the road from her. Throughout the first season Sookie is drawn into a series of mysteries surrounding Bill’s arrival in her town Bon Temps. Now Sookie’s “open-mindedness” towards vampires will be put to the test in season two of the series.

The Bachelorette

The Bachelorette Jillian Harris at the premiere of "The Proposal" in Hollywood, California.

Airs: Monday, May 18th @ 8PM ET/PT (ABC)

Jillian Harris, a proud Canadian girl, fell short of her goal last season when she was sent packing on The Bachelor because Jason Mesnick failed to understand Jillian’s “best friend” theory. This season Jillian has her own opportunity to find true love. The premiere began with 25 eligible men arriving from all over the country to try and win Jillian’s heart, including an Olympic cyclist, a break dance instructor, a pizza entrepreneur and a wine maker. Each is more handsome than the next with some truly outstanding personalities.

NYC Prep

Airs: Tuesday, June 23rd @ 9PM ET/PT (BRAVO)

Can you imagine if our favourite bad boys and girls of Gossip Girl were real? Well, there’s no need to imagine anymore. Bravo has a created a reality show that follows the lives of six individuals in Manhattan’s elite Upper East Side. NYC Prep is the reality series version of Gossip Girl, and like the series, it involves exclusive midnight parties, shopping sprees and gaudy relationships. Already, the blogosphere had been abuzz with anticipation for NYC Prep. Critics said they’d be careful in writing about the show’s characters, however, as they are presumably real people, not like the fictional Blair, Chuck, Nate, Serena, Dan, and Jenny.

I Survived a Japanese Game Show

Airs: Wednesday, June 17th @ 9PM ET/PT (ABC)

I Survived a Japanese Game Show is an American reality show that follows ten people who leave America for Tokyo, Japan, to take part in a reality-style competition, but not informed of the nature of the show. They are flown to Japan and immediately sat down to talk with producers, where it is revealed that they will be on a game show. They are broken up into teams and in the first six episodes compete in games against each other. The winning team is given a reward activity while the losing team is given a punishment activity. This is a show you cannot miss, because every Wednesday they have you laughing and screaming for more. Plus, the winner takes home $250,000.

The Listener

Star of The Listener, Craig Olejnik in Cannes, France.

Airs: Thursday, June 4th @ 10PM ET/PT (CTV

The Listener is a about a young paramedic named Toby Logan with the ability to listen to people’s thoughts. Toby did not know his parents and grew up in foster homes. Until now Toby has kept his ability secret and the only one he has shared it with is his old counselor and confidant, Dr. Ray Mercer. While on the job as a paramedic, Toby tries to help persons in crisis and along the way he treats his own wounds. With the help of Detective Marks and his ex-girlfriend Olivia, an E.R doctor, Toby realizes that his gift can help others.

The Goode Family

Airs: Friday, June 19th @ 8:30PM ET/PT (ABC)

This show is about Gerald and Helen Goode, a couple who live by the motto WWAGD (“What Would Al Gore Do?”). Gerald, a college administrator, and Helen, a community activist, are determined to stay “green”. They’re passionate vegans, they drive a hybrid, and they recycle everything possible. Even the family dog, Che, is vegan. In the words of Helen, all the Goodes want to do is buy organic apples. But despite their best efforts, something always goes haywire.

Desperate Housewives

Airs: Saturday April 24th @ 5PM ET/PT (MYTV BUFFALO)

Desperate Housewives takes a darkly comedic look at suburbia, where the secret lives of these six housewives aren’t always what they seem. The series began with Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) leaving her perfect house, in the loveliest of suburbs and ending it all. Now she takes us into the lives of her family, friends and neighbors. Her circle of girlfriends on Wisteria Lane includes Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), who has finally married the love of her life but is now faced with the challenges of a blended family; Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), who struggles with work, health and family issues; Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross) — Martha Stewart on steroids — who tries to keep her image of perfection even as everything crumbles around her; and Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria), the newly married ex-model who seems to have everything she has ever wanted – a rich, powerful husband, a big house — everything that is, but a husband she truly loves.

So You Think You Can Dance?

SYTYCD Host Cat Deely with past dance contestants in Los Angeles, California.

Airs: Tuesday’s on CTV @ 8:00PM ET/PT & Wednesday’s @ 7:30PM ET/PT

So You Think You Can Dance is an American dance reality show and competition. The series is similar to American Idol, with nationwide auditions leading to the discovery of the next big dance star. Idol’s Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe created the show. The contestants range from street dancers to winners of national championships. All the dancers are assigned different dance styles and partners each week to test their versatility.

This season is sure to bring laughs and tears, and a hot line up! So make sure your DVRs are set and ready to record. My fave this TV season is So You Think You Can Dance. What is yours?

All those dark clouds and misty days have finally come to an end. We’ve been patiently waiting to pull out those bright colored tanks and slip into those Bermuda shorts. At last, summer is taking back its rightful position. What’s better than having the perfect beauty tips this summer to go with that sizzling body of yours? I had the chance to interview Lucky Bromhead, the woman responsible for making up those beautiful MTV Canada hosts. Lucky filled me in on her favourite beauty trends for this season and some of the perks at MTV.

Lucky and MTV The AfterShow's Jessi Cruickshank

Meisha: Hi Lucky! It’s great to have the opportunity to talk with you and learn about what you do. How did you get started in the beauty industry?

Lucky: I’ve been in this industry for 17 years. I’ve always dabbled with makeup, even as a child and ever more as a teenager. I used to give all of my friends over-the-top makeovers inspired by fashion magazines and music videos. I love art and communicating with people, so I suppose that the combination of those things was a natural fit for being a makeup artist.

Meisha: We were fascinated to learn that you are a beauty expert for MTV. It sounds like a fantastic job! What does the position entail?

Lucky: My job as makeup artist for MTV is really amazing. All of the hosts that I work with are very personable and talented. I’m happy I can also call them friends. It’s great because there is a real family vibe at MTV, which comes with seeing the same faces every day. I have also had the opportunity to meet some of the hottest celebrities and musicians in the world.

My position entails doing daily makeup for all of MTV’s shows hosts and guests (MTV Live, The AfterShow, MTV News) as well as any field shoots. I do the makeup for any publicity shoots, commercials, interviews and often for magazine shoots relating to the hosts. I also create looks for our female hosts to wear on the red carpet or any gala or function they may be attending. I get to flex my makeup muscles as I do television and HD makeup, editorial makeup, special effects, print — let’s just say I’m never bored!

Lucky and Gene Simmons (Photo by: Telma Costa-Patmore)

Meisha: What have been some of your most memorable experiences (good or bad) as a beauty expert?

Lucky: Oh, I’ve had so many! Kanye West telling me that my presence made him feel like he was on a picnic was pretty funny. Rihanna and I exchanged shopping tips and Cyndi Lauper would do her vocal warm-up while I did her makeup and she’d make up dirty lyrics to “Time After Time” and sing them to me. I love doing makeup on someone like Peaches who really thinks outside the box when it comes to the perception of beauty. Gene Simmons made me grab his butt and make an assessment on its firmness. But some of my proudest moments have been doing things like Look Good Feel Better, Fashion Cares, watching some of the MTV hosts go from being excited kids to becoming Canadian and US celebrities, or my favorite: doing a regular person’s makeup and showing them how really beautiful they are. That transformation will never cease to thrill me.

Meisha: What can we look forward to from the beauty industry in terms of trends and innovation this season?

Lucky: With HDTV, I think that we will see a lot of companies moving forward with the technology of makeup. There are already really amazing foundation and powder products out there that make the skin look flawless and natural.

When it comes to trend, things move so quickly that the second you say something is out it’s back in. I’ve learned that when it comes to fashion never say never!

MTV host Nicole Holness (Photo by: Richard Sibbald)

Meisha: What are some of your personal favorite looks and trends in makeup today?

Lucky: I appreciate the “art” of makeup, and people who constantly push boundaries in terms of what is beautiful, like Lady Gaga, Karen O and Alexander McQueen’s runway shows. That said, I’m also madly in love with classic beauty like the look of Dita von Teese. There seems to be a trend right now toward a Studio 54 influence. Any makeup that is heavily inspired by an era and avant-garde makeup are my favourites.
The essential products I’d recommend to my clients? Primarily, that they have good skincare. Your skin is your canvas and it’s imperative that you take care of it. Choose the best products you can for your price range. Personal favorites are Mereadesso and Dermalogica. When it comes to makeup, I stand by MAC. They have the best colours and textures for every skin type and shade and their staff is stellar. I like going to the Pro Store at 363 Queen St. West in Toronto, ask for Ricky, he’s incredibly knowledgeable and so much fun!

Meisha: What are the biggest mistakes or misconceptions you’ve witnessed in people’s skin care routines or habits?

Lucky: People with oily skin are always afraid of moisturizer. It’s a huge misconception that moisturizer will make oily skin oilier. You just need to find a moisturizer for oily skin. Not moisturizing oily skin causes the skin to produce more oil to compensate for its lack of moisture.

Meisha: What are some of your favorite beauty tools?

Model at Fashion Cares

Lucky: MAC brushes are hands down my favorite beauty tool. If you go to any MAC store the artists there will help you assess which brushes are right for your face to achieve the look you want. And those brushes, when properly cared for, last forever.

Meisha: Finally, what advice do you have for people looking to enter the beauty industry in some capacity?
Lucky: I believe the best advice for anyone looking to enter the beauty industry is that you should love what you do. Your energy directly affects anyone you are working with, so you need to have both the artistic skills and the people skills. Also, always keep an open mind and be willing to learn. Most makeup artists have to do a lot of work for free at the beginning of their career until they earn their chops and build up a good portfolio, but it’s always an incredible learning experience.
It’s been proven that even in recessive times, the beauty industry always does well. It’s a relatively inexpensive way to look and feel better about yourself.

Meisha: Thanks again, Lucky! It’s been a wonderful chance to learn the ins and outs of your professional life! Are there any comments you’d like to add?

Lucky: When it comes to makeup have fun! Try something new, because if you don’t like how it looks it washes off. And never hide behind your makeup, let it reveal you. Lastly, celebrate the things that make you different. Chances are, the thing you dislike about your appearance is the thing that someone else wishes they had.
