Bodkin designer, Eviana Hartman wants to change the way we think about fashion and creating clothing. She believes that “sustainability and fashion are often thought to be at odds with each other”, but with her collection and the steps she is taking to make organic clothing stylish, she is set to make a real difference in the industry.

Bodkin isn’t high fashion but alternatively we would call it urban-chic. Wardrobe essentials for the urban girl, but they are in no way plain white tees. Each number has a unique structural and modern design twist that turns them each into a piece of art. Keeping sustainability in mind at all times, all of Bodkin’s cotton is organic and in addition she uses Tencel and post-consumer recycled fibers. She also tries to keep from dyeing fabrics. She searches the planet for the most sustainable materials for each collection. Her drive and determination as well as the care she puts into each piece makes her a designer to watch.

For spring/summer 2011 we are head-over-heels for Bodkin’s Sassafras dress. The ultimate must-have LWD for your wardrobe, pair it with sandals and a bangle and you are ready for a music festival, lunch on a patio or a stroll down the boardwalk.

Hartman started her career as a staff fashion writer for Vogue and Teen Vogue as well as a fashion features editor at NYLON. She started a column at The Washington Post about the environment while studying under her father William McDonough, the “green architect”. Architecture ended up being a major influence in her designs as well as science, modern art and Scandinavian street style.

Now wearing eco-friendly, organic clothes can be stylish and we can feel better knowing that our cute outfit is going to help save the environment. It is a win-win situation!

You can purchase Bodkin worldwide in boutiques, visit www.bodkin.us for locations.

Australian designer, Dion Lee, just put his seventh season at Australian Fashion Week under his belt. Known for his attention to detail, contemporary cuts and architecturally innovative vision, Lee is the future of fashion. With Net-a-Porter.com and other major fashion retailers picking up his collection, Lee is fast becoming a household name.

His sudden international success and demand on his time has not in anyway lessened his creativity and attention to detail. Each and every piece of Dion Lee clothing is cut to perfection and truly shows how much time and concentration goes into his design process. This was seen in his most recent fall 2011 collection of shape hugging dressed and separates in sultry reds and black.

This spring 2011 season Lee’s silk-chiffon dresses and structured jackets are absolute wardrobe staples. Ice-blues, lavenders and apricots color the collection, the most anticipated of Rosemount Australia Fashion Week at Sydney’s famous Opera House, of figure flattering pieces and minimal styling for a clean overall appearance. The silk tuxedo jacket and Rorschach printed organza dress is the perfect spring outfit that can take you from the desk to the dance floor. Although Lee expresses a very modern vision, his clothing is extremely wearable, and this season has a very sporty feeling with the addition racer-back tanks and t-shirt dresses.

The coolest part of the spring collection were the Rorschach prints, Lee wanted these to represent an uninhibited reaction to fashion. The prints were an opportunity to do something unexpected and catch the attention of buyers and fashion lovers who have their own unique sense of style. He definitely achieved his goal. We are all waiting to see what he does next.

In the last year Eliza Doolittle has gone from touring humble venues in the UK with her band to becoming an international success as a solo artist with her hit song “Pack Up” that debuted at number three on the European charts. Now ready to take her act to North America, Doolittle is excited to reach a bigger and broader market.

“I am excited to have more and more people hearing my music. I know that the US is an especially difficult market to crack but I’ll ‘Doo’ my best,” jokes Doolitte in an interview with me last week.

While writing her self-titled album, she wanted her songs to be relatable, providing inspiration for young girls, and as she says in “Pack Up”, “I don’t care what the people may say, what the people may say about me”.

“When writing, I find inspiration from something I am personally feeling or something I’ve seen on the news and feel the need to write about,” Doolittle shares.

There is more to Doolittle than her recognizable tone and awfully catchy songs, she recently added model to her resume, signing with Select agency.

“I would love to model for Vivienne Westwood, Mark Fast, Moschino, I could name more,” Eliza says, clearly excited to talk fashion. “My favorite model is Natalia Vodianova. There are some beautiful ladies out there that I admire.”

As for her personal style, you can usually find Doolittle hanging out in cut off jeans shorts and crop tops. “I just wear what I like and try to make it my own. I like to feel comfortable. I like color and something I haven’t seen before,” Doolittle says.

Touring all year, she recently finished the SXSW festival and will be headed to the V Festival this summer. “Festivals will always be the best places to play live music. The atmosphere is always so friendly and there’s no judgment.”

Thanks to the success of Glee, the 24-year-old actress from Savannah, Georgia, is so in demand that she is constantly letting down casting directors, album producers and tour managers. Tough life, eh?

Luckily, last year Agron said “yes” to director D. J. Caruso, when asked if she would like to be a part of I Am Number Four, a sci-fi fantasy executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay. Agron was in the middle of touring with her Glee castmates but she jumped at the chance to star in the big-budget adventure. She hopped on a plane the night after the tour finished to start production.

I Am Number Four, is based on a book by Jobie Hughes and James Frey, about nine aliens who are hiding out on earth. One by one, these alient are being killed by alien bad guys who want, of course, world domination. Number Four – aka John (Alex Pettyfer) – discovers he’s next on the hit list. He finds a friend in Sarah (Agron), who agrees to keep his secret while helping him battle the evil forces.

Although she starring in a sci-fi flick, Agron is a fan of classic movie musicals like My Fair Lady, Funny Face, An American in Paris and Singin in the Rain. She adores Audrey Hepburn and Leslie Caron. Those influences are evident when it comes to her style chocies, often option for vintage and classic styles and looks.

We can’t wait to see more of Agron as she continues to star in Glee, big box-office movies and most importantly on the red carpet!

The soon-to-be mama showed the fall 2011 collection to industry tastemakers, editors and buyers in January (as she would be too pregnant to travel during fashion week) but, the rest of the world were given a look at the entire collection today.

The perfectly tailored jackets, ultra feminine suits, and seventies-inspired dresses are sure to be on the top of every fashionista’s fall must-have list. Known for her love for vintage and the disco decade, this line screams Zoe!

The Rachel Zoe Collection ranges from $200 to $800 and will hit stores (including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Intermix) in July.

Rachel Bilson is making the rounds for her new film, “Waiting for Forever”, in theaters now. “Waiting for Forever” is written by Steve Adams and directed by James Keach. It’s a unique story of love, friendship and a view of the world from different perspectives, starring Bilson alongside Tom Sturridge (whom we think is absolutely adorable). When it comes to style, Bilson’s petite frame and doll-like looks make her the ideal mannequin for any designer’s clothes. Rachel loves to accessorize and mix and match different fabrics and prints. Whether she is out for a coffee or on the red carpet, we always look to Bilson for style inspiration, thus she is this month’s “Shop Her Style”.

Premiere Pretty

We love how she paired this layer gray and black cocktail dress with pulled back hair, simple makeup and black accessories at the premiere of “Waiting For Forever” in Los Angeles.

Daytime Chic

Even when she is running errands with a friend in Los Feliz, Bilson is dressed to perfection. We love how she paired spring’s nude tone trend with a bright red blazer for the perfect punch of color.

Front Row Fashionista

Rachel Bilson is a front row fixture at fashion week so it was no surprise she was spotted in Paris at her favourite show, Chanel Spring/Summer 2011. So cool how she managed to pull off such rugged accessories with that feminine dress!

Wondering what your favorite Hollywood starlets will be wearing on the big night? We’ve searched every runway from New York ready-to-wear to Paris couture for the perfect red carpet gowns. Eliminating what we’ve already seen at the Globes and the SAGs, these choices are what would a) suit her best b) is appropriate for the event and c) what we wish we could wear! Tune in to the 83rd Academy Awards on February 27th to see if we were right!

Nicole Kidman (“Rabbit Hole”) looks best in classic, simple and elegant gowns like this Gianfranco Ferre from spring 2011 ready-to-wear. Skip the up-do with this one Nicole, flowing tresses will soften the look!

Jennifer Lawrence (“Winter’s Bone“) has the body and the height to pull off any gown. We see her in Elie Saab’s spring 2011 ready-to-wear sequined blue gown. Phenomenal!

Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) will glow while she recites her acceptance speech in Oscar’s lucky charm: Valentino! This black gown with gorgeous sheer details just walked down the runway in Paris at spring 2011 haute couture fashion week. With a little tailoring and some subtle alterations, this dress is baby bump ready!

Michelle Williams (“Blue Valentine”) has had some hits and misses this award’s season, with critics giving her a hard time for the daisy dress at the Globes. Here is how she should have done the floral and nude tone trend, in Valentino spring 2011 ready-to-wear.

Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) was stunning in white at the SAGs, but her dress was ill-fitting to say it kindly. Instead of fitting her into something ultra tight, this whimsical Christophe Josse gown will flatter her every curve. And the color choice wont wash her out, in fact her eyes will pop!

Helena Bonham Carter (“The King’s Speech”) has claimed that she purposely sabotages herself on the red carpet because she knows the critics will get her one way or the other. We don’t think that is necessary. There are dresses out there for the women who like to take risks, for example, this stand-out from Oscar de la Renta.

Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”) was all wrong in silver at the Globes! She is our pick for Best Supporting Actress and needs to look jaw-droppingly beautiful when she goes on stage to say her speech. Our pick is a beautiful green Elie Saab (a perfect contrast to her hair color) from Paris spring 2011 haute couture.

Hailee Steinfeld (“True Grit”) was perfectly age appropriate in Prada at the SAGs and has been a total doll this entire award’s season. We would love to see her in Alexis Mabille’s spring 2011 haute couture for the Oscars.

Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”), although she is not nominated, would be a dream in Valentin Yudashkin (spring 2011 haute couture). Although we’ve seen her in this sweetheart strapless neckline, small adjustments would make this an absolute stunner on the red carpet.

Annette Bening (“The Kids Are All Right”) will turn heads wearing a one-shoulder, red Elie Saab from spring 2011 haute couture. You can’t go wrong with red!

Do you agree with our choices? Comment and let us know what your picks are for the Oscar’s red carpet!

The competition began with 75 third year Ryerson design students and was narrowed down to a top ten. The students had the opportunity to learn the art of working and crafting leather from Danier experts. The winner was chosen by an esteemed panel of judges, including Robert Ott, chair, Ryerson’s School of Fashion, Danier’s chief merchandising officer, Olga Koel, fashion icon, Jeanne Beker, renowned stylist George Antonopoulos and Tiyana Grulovic, fashion editor at the Globe and Mail and an interactive public online voting element.

First place was awarded to Andrea Dineen from London, Ontario, who used her fine art background to snag the top seat.

”I am extremely honoured to have my work chosen as the winner of this competition; I am thrilled at the thought that my design will be on sale at Danier this fall and can’t wait to see it being worn on the street,” said Andrea Dineen.
