When Rihanna hit the scene four years ago, she could have been written off as just another pretty pop princess. But with the release of her third album Good Girl Gone Bad in 2007, Rihanna reinvented herself as a fashionable force of nature. She lopped off her dark curls and strapped herself into a series of sexy leather bondage-inspired ensembles. While we liked her as a good girl, we absolutely love her as a bad girl.
But this dominant diva has had her share of troubles, especially in the last few months. First there was the alleged altercation with ex-BF, Chris Brown, the night before the Grammys. Then there was a set of racy photos that were leaked to the Internet, which may have cost Rihanna a spot on the cover of Vogue.
While she has tried to keep a low profile in the wake of these personal struggles, Rihanna made a splash at one of the biggest fashion events of the year. She made her return to the spotlight by hitting the red carpet at this May’s Costume Institute Gala. Ri stepped out in an extravagant Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo with slim cropped trousers and statement-making shoulders. (It’s no coincidence that bold shoulders are the silhouette of the season.)
We’re glad Rihanna is back and more fabulous than ever. The red carpet just wasn’t the same without her!
