Get Diane Kruger’s Oscar Look

daine1To get Diane Kruger’s natural yet alluring Oscars look, start with clear skin. Since this look is all about the face (hair swept back and minimal jewellery), the canvas – skin – needs to be as clear as possible. Wash your face twice a day with an oil-free acne cleanser like Philosophy’s on a Clear Day Oil-Free Foaming Acne Cleanser.

For a fresh look, you don’t need to go too heavy on the foundation. Instead, try a tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, which has a built-in SPF 20 sunscreen.

With her hair swept back off the face, all the attention is on Diane’s facial features. To give your features a nice frame, make sure to have well-groomed eyebrows. Too many women forget that brows frame your face and can change a whole look.

Visit your favourite salon to get a consultation on the right eyebrow shape for your face shape. Then using a thin angled brush and an eyeshadow (packed or baked, not powder) that is one shade darker than your natural hair colour, gently fill in your eyebrows using small strokes. Too busy to do all that work? Just pick up an eyebrow kit like Too Faced Brow Envy Brow Shaping & Defining Kit and follow the simple instructions.

Make sure to prime your eyes under eyeshadows to help the colours stay put. One of the best eyeshadow bases out there is the Shadow Insurance by Too Faced.

Diane’s look has a very subtle hint of highlighter in the corners of the eyes. For this, use a cream instead of powder, in a shade that’s two shades lighter than your complexion.

For the overall colour, Diane has on a soft taupe-brown colour that accentuates her piercing blue eyes. To achieve the natural just-swept-on feel, use a cream shadow instead of pressed powder, which can be tricky. Using the pads of your ring finger, dab on the cream shadow on your upper lids, gently “wing-ing” it out near the outer edges, and smear a little bit on the bottom as well. Try the Creaseless Cream Shadow by Benefit.

Don’t bother with heavy false lashes for this look – the natural feel is what makes this look a beautiful one. Apply 2-3 coats of lengthening mascara on the top lashes, and just lightly sweep the mascara wand on the bottom lashes while holding it vertically, just to get a bit of product on the lower lashes. You can’t go wrong with Lancome mascaras, like Hypnose.

With a dark shade on the eyes, you don’t need to go heavy on the cheeks or lips. On the cheekbones and apples of the cheeks, sweep on a gentle pink blush with a tiny amount of light reflecting shimmer to give that glow. Nars blushes are my favourite.

Keep the lips nude to natural pink, depending on your skin tone. MAC makes really nice tinted lip moisturizers, which keep your lips kissably soft and adds it a hint of colour. Try colours like Petting Pink or Soothing Beige.
