Stars Design For AIDS Awareness

kpfashionagainstaidsH&M and Designers Against AIDS (DAA) are teaming up with some of our favourite celebrities for the second year in a row for the Fashion Against AIDS apparel campaign, which works to fight the disease and raise awareness among young people.

This year artists such as Estelle, N.E.R.D, Katy Perry, Dita von Teese, and Yoko Ono are working with H&M to design t-shirts, dresses, tanks and bodysuits.

Twenty-five per cent of the sales will be donated to youth awareness projects. Even better, the entire collection is made out of 100 per cent organic cotton.

“The collection has a 1980s feel with mixtures of white, bright and graffiti-like prints,” says H&M head of design Ann-Sofie Johansson. “The fight against AIDS has always been one of our priorities, and H&M is overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment from each and every celebrity involved in this collection.”

It’s all about the message for the 2009 Fashion Against AIDS collection. N.E.R.D’s t-shirts tell us to “Use Your Brain”, while Estelle lets us know that “Life Is Too Short — Have Sex Be Safe” on her tank top. Katy Perry’s delivers the message that, “What’s On The Outside Is What Counts,” on bodysuits and t-shirts. Yoko Ono wants us to “Imagine Peace” on her designs.

“It’s an honor to be asked to take part in this brilliant project,” says Dita Von Teese. “As individuals, every little thing we do can add up to something that makes a major impact in the fight against HIV.”

Fashion Against AIDS hopes to fight the assumption that young people truly understand the message about HIV and AIDS. H&M wants the new generation to be knowledgeable enough to prevent further spread of the disease.

You can find the men’s and women’s apparel in stores beginning June 2009.
